Opening hours

Due to a school booking, the book sale will not run on Thursday 22nd November, and the museum will be closed to the public. However, the book sale will run on Saturday 24th November with our full stock available.

The museum is open to the public every Saturday between 10am and 4pm and Wednesdays 10am to 4pm in school holidays. Admission and parking is free, although a small charge applies for special events – see our events page for more details. Parking is available on Saturdays only, although we can arrange parking for group visits during the week. Alternatively the nearest car parks are Riverside or Chelmer Village.
Groups of 10 or more can book visits in advance, Monday-Friday, during the daytime or evening. There is a small fee per person. To book a visit please email [email protected] or call 01245 457150.
We are situated at Essex Police Headquarters in Springfield, Chelmsford.

Local pubs and restaurants Try the Admiral McHardy Pub in Arbour Lane, The Fox and Raven or Miller and Carter both in Barnes Mill Road or The Chelmer Tavern Toby Carvery in Dukes Lane.

City centre shopping has a wide variety of shops and restaurants and is a 20 minute walk from the museum.
